Pork Pies
Now, I love pork, any sort of pork, roast, belly, bacon and even scratchings and pork pies, I have been to Melton Mowbray and had some of their best pies, but today I went to Johnsons Farm in Old Hurst, Cambridgeshire and treated myself to one of their Pork Pies, £3.50, good price for the size and wow the taste was excellent, a good pastry, light but firm on the bottom, a small amount of good tasty jelly and full to the top with great pork that crumbled then melted in the mouth, full of flavour and texture, this pie gets 9/10. Well done Johnsons. Check out their Farm shop, Crocodile Pitt and tea room.
Den's Real Chilli Burger
What can I say, a real delight for Chilli fans, these burgers made with 100% beef mince, onion, hot chillies, kidney beans and tomatoes.
Served in a warm fresh bun with mixed leaves, tomatoes and extra chilli sauce if required, not to blow my own trumpet but they are really great with golden rice on the side, lovely.
Dens 'Hot Rod' Pickles
Charlotte's steeped in a very hot sweet vinegar (secret recipe), with sliced birds eye chillies including seeds, mustard seeds and hot peppercorns floating around in the jar, fermented for at least 6 months, these bad boys will sort the men from the boys, only know 2 people who can eat them without their eyes watering, man pickles at their best. There is a less violent version that only has half the strength of the originals for you girlies. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, I know misogynist pig etc, etc, but really these things are evil, an afternoon in the smallest room in the house normally follows. These go great with Den's Real Chilli Burgers.
Lidl, Cheese topped rolls
Not a supermarket person me, I like to support my local shops as much as possible, so on a trip to ST Neots I needed some bread so stopped to pick a loaf as you do, i noticed a young lady filling a shelf with fresh cheese topped rolls, I do like a cheese topped roll so I purchased 4, went home and decided that my ham trim would go very nice in my new rolls, you may think that there is not a lot to get excited about when it comes to rolls, but these rolls will excite any taste bud, a nice strong cheddar covered the whole to the top of the roll, and it tasted great, mixed with my ham, a winner in every way, so when I now pass a Lidl I have to stop and by at least 6, maybe 8 every time.
A great roll, soft and tasty.
Iceland, Pork Trim
I F*&^%$£G hate Iceland, most of their frozen stuff should be immediately disposed of without touching your body, unless you are wearing a hazmat suite.
So, dragged in their kicking and screaming by my partner I entered the danger zone, moaning most of the way around the store I spied something that looked like it may be edible, a pack of Pork Trim, £1.79, I do love my pork, so with my rubber gloves tied at the wrist with string I lifted a pack into the trolly, I left the store without any contamination so we proceeded home.
2 slices of fresh baked bread and a good helping of Pork Trim with stuffing, OH yeah, it came with stuffing, I made a sarnie, I took my first bite, yum, yum, yum, RESULT, it tasted great, and a week later I am still here alive so I found something that's worth visiting single mum heaven for.
SO Iceland well done, sort of, as its a product you buy in not one of your own, but hey, I'm pleased I found it, makes a great sarnie.
OH NO: they have stopped selling the Pork Trim, bollocks I really liked it too.
Den's How To's In this section of food I will give simple advice on How To create great tasting meals.
Den's, The Man Bacon Sarnie
2 thick cut slices (by hand, none of this girlie pre-cut stuff) of fresh white bread, a farmhouse loaf is best, butter both slices (real butter not the stuff with everything taken out) fry 8 slices of un-smoked back bacon (from your butcher, not pre packed water filled crap) in a frying pan until crispy and caramelised, place bacon between the slices of bread, eat with a mug freshly ground coffee, black, heaven. Tip, the bacon should have enough fat still left on it to soak into the bread, that's where the taste is. Please don't tell my, or your Doctor about this.
Den's Chilli Con Carne
A quick and fast way to make a Chilli Con Carne is to cheat (that dose not mean no flavour) using readily available sauces and extras from your local supermarket, just add more chilli's, it can never be to hot.
